June will be a slow blogging month

I got a few emails this week from readers concerned about my lack of blogging since I volunteered to help my friend Ron with his new shed.  Don't fret, gentle readers, my hammerin' arm and hammerin' hand are just fine.  Though I am just now returning to full flexibility in my legs. Oy was I sore.

Truth be told, things haven't slowed down at work at all, and I've been trying to find time for the wife as well.  The result is that I have precious little time for writing, unless it's something I'm doing for work anyway (the MRTG articles are fine examples of that).

June is a big month for me at work.  I have a number of things that I need to have done:

  • Disaster Recovery Site:  You know you're a security geek when you look up at the Space Needle and the thought that enters your head first is “If someone blew that up, it could fall right on my primary data center“.  We've been committing to customers to have our DR site online by the end of June.  Everything is on track so far, but there is still some work left to do.  (Oh, and the building engineers have run sims on the Space Needle blowing up, and have determined that it's nearly impossible for it to “topple“ over in such an event, but would instead come nearly straight down.)
  • Migration of CA Data Center to Seattle:  We merged with another company a couple months back.  They have a data center in California, but it's not nearly as capable as the one here in Seattle.  We'll be adding about 50 clients to our Seattle Data Center, which means I have to build them a network to live in.  First customer goes live in the Seattle DC at month's end.
  • Travel:  I am off to Minnesota this next week to help a customer determine why their network performance is so craptacular.  That's 3-ish days that I won't have to work on the other 2 things.  Why doesn't anyone in Hawaii or Cancun have network problems, damn it!

All this should add up to a mighty slow blogging month.  Sorry, can't be helped.
