New Artist: Mountain Con

One of the great benefits of living in Seattle is that this town is a magnet for great musical acts.  And my favorite radio station, 107.7 The End, has a passion for bringing new talent to the radio waves as frequently as possible.  For example, every Tuesday the morning phenom NoName takes 20-30 minutes during his prime time show and brings in a guest (usually one of the folks from Sonic Boom) to talk about the new CDs coming out during the week, and play some tracks from them.  It's great radio, and a refreshing change from the sewage that I normally find on morning radio.

If you're not careful, No-Name (or any of The End's staff) can totally spring some new stuff on you that'll blow your mind.

Such was the case this morning, when he spun a track called “I woke up and the morning was grey“ [download] from previously-unheard-of Seattle band Mountain Con.  Mountain Con is an odd mix of Franz Ferdinand guitar riffs and a lyrical style that can only be described as “Beck meets Bob Dylan“.  And damn if it doesn't work.

Sadly, they are not yet listed on Real Rhapsody (my audio source of choice), but the band does let you download all the tracks from their albums, and play them 3 times for free (Weed downloads).

I highly recommend you check these guys out if you are into fresh alternative music.

You guys are stupid. I just saw mountain con open for pusa, and they were lame. If I ever hear anyone compare that dumbass lead singer to dylan again, I'm going to shit my pants while slashing my throat with a kitchen knife.

Well, well, well! Let's hear it from some fuckhead who goes to PUSA shows. Wait, tell me what your favorite song is! Let me guess, Peaches? Or no even better, Little Dune Buggy? Or maybe you just like childrens music why you fuck-yourself in the ass with a little action figure of your mom. Narrow minded douche-bag fuck-ass. Here you go . . . "The Lead singer sounds a lot like dylan", now slash your throat and shit your pants while you are listening to Hooty and the Blowfish.

Fuckhead.

I'm really diggin this band and their record. I also saw them open for the Presidents of the USA (who rock, thank you very god damn much) but unlike "tim" I fucking loved Mountian Con. I'm addicted to their album --been in my car since I got it. If "tim" had the chance to hear it, he'd have to have to admit this music is fucking genious. Either that or he just has shitty taste or is just a jealous musician. Whatever, its only a matter of time before these guys are giving Modest Mouse a run for their money.

Speaking of Modest Mouse - (they sucked @ the Ball) Mountain Con - great time at the show.
Lots of energy and they can headline anytime over Modest. Rock on ! can I get a beer now ??

I am a huge Mountain Con fan. I havent missed one of their Seattle shows since their CD release show back in September. On that note I should say that I think they put on a great live show, but I really like when they headline so they play more songs. You should all check them out on Myspace @ www.myspace.com/mountaincon
