Greece - Delphi
Delphi, on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, was a place where the Greeks worshipped Gaia, and was considered the center of the world. It is thought that volcanic gasses seeping to the surface through a number of fissures produced the narcotic trance that made the oracles of this city famous. No major decision was ever made without a visit to the oracles of Delphi. I visited Delphi in 2000 as part of a 2-week tour of Italy and Greece. These are my pictures.

All Greek cities had stadiums such as this one in Delphi

Apollo: The tour guide pulled me aside and showed me this plate, which she felt was the treasure of the museum. I can't for the life of me remember why.

Delphi was considered the center of the world by the Greeks, and there are several "navel" sculptures in the area

Looking out from Delphi, you can see the vast olive groves, and the Temple of Athena in the distance

The supposed Center of the Earth, where 2 eagles released by Zeus, travelling opposite directions, met. The stone here represents the Navel sculpture that now sits in the site's museum.
